Safety center

Talklio is for adults only. You can report any message or space from inside the app, owners can remove anyone instantly, and guests can leave and delete their chat at any time. Reports go to a real safety team, and we act on illegal content and abuse, including by deleting spaces.

Talklio is built for small, private conversations between people who already know each other. That's what makes it calm. But privacy shouldn't mean nobody's looking out for you, so here's how safety works.

Who can use Talklio

Talklio is for adults aged 18 and over. Everyone confirms their age before creating or joining a space. If we learn that a space involves a child, we delete it.

Report a message

  1. Long-press the message (or right-click it on a computer).
  2. Tap Report.
  3. Pick a reason, add any details, and choose whether to include the message text.
  4. Tap Send report.

Because chats are end-to-end encrypted, our team can't read your conversation. A report contains only what you choose to send: the reason, your note, and the message text if you tick that box. The other person isn't told that you reported them.

Report a whole space

Tap your avatar in the top corner, then Report this space. Use this if the space itself is the problem, for example if someone sent you a link to harass you. You can also email safety@talklio.app with the space link. Please leave out the part after the # sign. We don't need it, and it unlocks the messages.

Remove or leave someone

  • If you own the space: open People and tap the bin icon next to their name. Their access ends immediately and your whole chat with them is deleted.
  • If you're a guest: tap your avatar and choose Leave and delete my chat. Your chat is deleted at once and you can't get back in with that name.
  • To end everything: owners can tap Delete this space now. Every message, photo and voice note is wiped and the link stops working for everyone.

What our safety team does

We look at every report. Depending on what we find, we may:

  • delete the space, which removes everyone and everything in it immediately
  • keep a record of the report itself for up to 90 days so we can spot repeat abuse
  • report illegal material, especially anything involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of children, to the relevant authorities, as the law requires

We aim to review reports within 48 hours and much sooner for anything involving immediate danger.

If you're in danger

Talklio isn't an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number straight away (999 in the UK, 911 in the US, 112 across the EU).

Tips for chatting safely

  • Only join spaces from people you know. If a stranger sends you a link, you don't have to open it.
  • Send passwords separately from the link, or share them in person.
  • Remember screenshots exist. Disappearing messages protect you from leaks later, not from the person you're talking to.
  • Don't share things that identify you (address, workplace, financial details) with anyone you haven't met.
  • Trust your gut. If a conversation feels wrong, leave the space. You don't owe anyone an explanation.

Complaints and appeals

If you think we got a decision wrong, for example if your space was deleted and you don't think it should have been, email safety@talklio.app. Tell us what happened and we'll look at it again. You can complain to us the same way about how we handle reports.
