About Talklio

Talklio is a small, independent project built for people who want to step away from social media without losing their closest connections. It's free, it has no ads or trackers inside the app, and it deletes everything on purpose.

Why we made it

Most of us have tried to take a break from social media at some point. According to the Pew Research Center, 42% of US Facebook users said they'd taken a break of several weeks or more, and 26% had deleted the app from their phone.

The hard part usually isn't the scrolling. It's the people. Your best friend sends memes on Instagram, your cousin only uses Messenger, and the group chat lives on WhatsApp. Delete the apps and you go quiet on everyone, including the three or four people you actually wanted to hear from.

Talklio is our answer to that. Before you disappear, you make one private space, add the few people who matter, and send them a link. You keep the conversations. You lose the feed.

What we believe

  • Forgetting is a feature. Conversations used to fade. Now everything is stored forever by default, ready to be leaked, searched or screenshotted years later. Talklio gives chats a lifespan again: 24 hours for messages, 30 days for a space.
  • You shouldn't have to hand over your identity to talk to a friend. No phone number, no email, no contact upload.
  • Privacy should be built in, not promised. We designed Talklio so we couldn't read your messages even if we wanted to. The security page explains how.
  • Small is good. Up to five people per space, each in their own one-to-one chat. It's not a social network, and it never will be.

How Talklio stays free

There's no ad business here, and no data to sell, because we don't keep any. Talklio runs on lightweight infrastructure that costs very little, mainly because everything gets deleted so quickly. If that ever changes, we'll say so plainly, and the core features will stay free.

Who's behind it

Talklio was founded by Wisdom Adike and is run independently. When you email us, a real person reads it and writes back.

How we write our guides

Our guides are researched from primary sources, link to their evidence, and get reviewed by a person before they're published. Read our editorial policy for the details, including how we keep comparisons with other apps fair.
