# Is Talklio safe to use?

> Talklio is safe for private chats between adults who know each other. Messages, photos and voice notes are end-to-end encrypted on your device, the key never reaches Talklio's servers, no phone number or email is needed, and everything is deleted after 24 hours. It can't stop screenshots, it's a young independent service without an outside security audit yet, and anyone with your link and a password can get in, so share those carefully.

It's a fair question to ask about any new chat app, and an especially fair one for an app that says it's private. Here's a straight answer, including the parts that don't flatter us. Every technical claim here is explained in more detail on our [security page](/security).

## The short answer

Yes, for what it's built for: short, private conversations between adults who already know each other. Talklio can't read your messages, doesn't ask who you are, and deletes everything on a schedule. It isn't a replacement for a long-term messenger, and like every app, it can't protect you from the person on the other end.

## Is Talklio legit?

Talklio is a free web app at talklio.app, launched in 2026 and run independently by its founder, Wisdom Adike. There are no ads, no trackers inside the app, and nothing to buy. You can read exactly how it works on our [About page](/about), and a real person answers [hello@talklio.app](mailto:hello@talklio.app).

Because it runs in your browser, there's no app store listing to check. The safest way to open it is to type talklio.app yourself or use a link from someone you know.

## What keeps your chats private

| Protection | What it means for you |
| --- | --- |
| End-to-end encryption | Messages, photos and voice notes are locked on your phone with AES-256-GCM before they're sent |
| The key stays off our servers | It lives in your link after the #, a part browsers never send to servers |
| No phone number, email or account | There's nothing linking your chats to your real identity |
| Passwords hashed on your device | We never see your password in plain text |
| 24-hour deletion | Every message is deleted a day after it's sent, and the whole space closes after 30 days |
| Encrypted calls | Voice and video calls use WebRTC, which encrypts audio and video by design |
| Separate chats | Guests can't see each other's conversations with the owner |

## What Talklio can't protect you from

This is the part that matters most, so we won't skip it.

- **Screenshots.** Anyone you talk to can screenshot or photograph their screen. No app can prevent that.
- **Shared links and passwords.** Anyone with the full link and a password can log in as that person. Send the link and passwords separately.
- **The people you talk to.** Encryption hides your chat from outsiders, not from the person reading it. Only chat with people you know.
- **A hacked or shared phone.** If someone else has your unlocked device, they can see what you see.
- **Trust in the code.** Like any web app, Talklio's code is loaded from our site each time. Talklio is young, and it hasn't had an independent security audit yet. It uses only the browser's built-in cryptography, with no third-party scripts inside the app.
- **Some metadata.** Our servers see display names, who messages whom inside a space, and when, for as long as the data lasts. The full list is on the [security page](/security).

## Is Talklio safe for kids and teens?

No. Talklio is for adults aged 18 and over only. Everyone confirms their age before creating or joining a space, and we delete spaces that involve children. Teens looking for a safe way to talk should use apps with parental controls that are designed for them.

## What if someone makes me uncomfortable?

You're in control. Guests can leave and delete their chat at once. Owners can remove anyone instantly, which deletes that chat. Anyone can report a message or a whole space from inside the app, and reports go to a person, not a bot. The [Safety center](/safety) explains each step.

## How to use Talklio safely

1. Only open Talklio links from people you know.
2. Share passwords in person or in a different app from the link.
3. Don't send anything you'd be upset to see screenshotted.
4. Add Talklio to your home screen so you always open the real site.
5. Delete the space when you're done, rather than waiting for it to expire.

## How Talklio compares

Talklio sits somewhere different from mainstream apps. Signal and WhatsApp are permanent messengers tied to a phone number, while Talklio is a temporary space with no account at all. If you want one app for life, Signal or Session may suit you better. See our honest [comparison of private messaging apps](/compare/best-private-messaging-apps-without-phone-number).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Talklio safe and legit?

Yes. Talklio is a free, independent web app that end-to-end encrypts chats, needs no phone number or email, and deletes messages after 24 hours. It can't stop screenshots, and it hasn't had an outside security audit yet.

### Can Talklio read my messages?

No. Messages are encrypted on your device, and the key stays in the part of your link after the #, which browsers never send to servers. Talklio only stores scrambled data, and deletes it after 24 hours.
